We sell a 2.5-hour Pig Island jet ski tour on Koh Samui. We've run it for three years. In that time, we've heard a phrase from customers more than any other: "this was the best half-day I had in Thailand."
That's a big claim for a country with 5,000 km of coastline and a thousand half-day options. So why does it keep coming up?
Reason 1: It's actually short
Most "half-day" tours in Thailand are 6 hours by the time you count hotel pickup, transfer, briefing, the actual tour, return transfer, and the inevitable 20-minute wait somewhere along the way.
The Pig Island tour is genuinely 2.5 hours on the water — hotel pickup at 9:30 if you do the 10 AM session, back to hotel by 1 PM. You're home for lunch. You can still do an afternoon at the resort pool. That's the half-day promise actually delivered.
Reason 2: Three different stops in one trip
Pig Island (pigs on a beach), Virgin Islands snorkel stop (small reef), Hidden Lagoon (sheltered cove). Three distinct experiences in 2.5 hours. Most longer tours give you 8 stops that blur into one another. Three stops, well-spaced, lets you actually remember each.
Reason 3: The pigs
It is impossible to overstate how much of a hit the pigs are. They wade out into shallow water to meet incoming boats. They are calm, well-fed, and completely unbothered by phones, cameras, or screaming children. We've never had a customer come back from the Pig Island stop without a photo they immediately Instagram-stories.
The pigs descend from a small herd left here years ago — fully feral but well-cared-for under a local conservation arrangement, fed by the island's caretaker. You can hand-feed them under supervision; snacks are provided by the island concession (so don't bring your own).
The Pig Island concept sounds gimmicky until you're there. Then it's the cover photo of your trip.
Reason 4: It's on the quieter coast
Most of Koh Samui's tourist traffic concentrates around Chaweng (south) and Lamai (south-east). The Pig Island route runs along Samui's east coast — quieter water, fewer boats, almost no day-trippers. You feel like you've found the locals' side of the island. To a large degree, you have.
Reason 5: Hotel pickup from 5 areas
Maenam, Bophut, Chongmon, Chaweng, Lamai — five major east-coast resort zones, all included in the tour. You don't need to figure out transport.
What it's NOT
Honest moment: Pig Island Koh Samui is not the 9-Point Phuket Grand Tour. It's shorter, less varied, lower-adrenaline, less photo-rich overall. The Phuket flagship is a different scale of trip entirely.
But on Samui, where the tour options skew either "60-minute speedboat to Koh Phangan" or "9-hour Ang Thong full-day", the 2.5-hour Pig Island slot is in a category of its own. That's why it gets the "best half-day in Thailand" feedback.
Things to know before you book
- Lunch is not included. Most riders stop at a Chaweng beach café after.
- Sea-Doo 1,630cc is the only jet ski option on this tour. Two riders per ski, 170 kg combined.
- Daily 10 AM and 2 PM sessions. Saturdays closed.

Travelling with kids? Pigs are gentle but spirited. Under-8s should ride pillion with a parent; the 2.5-hour tour is comfortable for that age range. Over-12s ride solo as long as parent rides alongside.
