Phuket jet ski tour
— five routes ranked, honestly.

Phuket jet ski fleet beached at sunrise — five routes ranked

The five-machine fleet at sunrise. Every route uses a different combination.

People ask us this all the time, usually over WhatsApp at 11pm Bangkok time, usually three days before they fly in: "We've only got one day for a jet ski tour in Phuket — which route should we book?"

For four years, we gave a polite, hedging answer. We were trying to be even-handed about routes that are demonstrably not equal. Time to stop. This is the honest ranking — based on which routes we'd send our own friends and family on, and which ones we run because there's a market for them, but wouldn't be our first pick.

The ranking, top to bottom

1. 9-Point Grand Tour (Flagship). 9 island stops across Phang Nga Bay, 4 hours, buffet lunch on a beach, damage insurance built into every machine. ฿6,900 – ฿13,000 depending on jet ski. This is the route we'd book if we were tourists ourselves. There's no contest. Read our piece on the insurance to understand why we built it.

2. Elephant Route. 8 island stops including an elephant sanctuary visit on a Phuket beach. The only Phuket jet ski tour with a land-side animal encounter. ฿6,900 with Sea-Doo. Best for couples who want a story.

3. Monkey Island Route. 7 island stops, the classic. Monkey Island, Bat Island, Naka Yai, mangrove forest. ฿6,500. Best for first-timers because the route is shorter, calmer, and more forgiving.

4. Yamu Monkey Island Route. Same 7 island stops as Monkey Island, but launched from Cape Yamu on the east coast with Bluetooth speakers built into the jet ski. ฿6,500. Best for music lovers and anyone staying on the east side of the island.

5. Scenic Route. 6 island stops — Khai Nok, Khai Nui, Khai Nai, Mali, Coconut, Lipi. The shortest route, the least animal interaction, the cheapest day (฿6,500). Honestly? It's the one we'd skip unless you've already done the others.

If you only have one day in Phuket, book the 9-Point. If you have two days, do Monkey Island as the warm-up and 9-Point as the main event. If you have three, add Elephant.

By traveller type

  • First-time rider, nervous. Monkey Island Route, morning session. Shorter route, calmer water, time to acclimatise before any group photo gets taken.
  • Couples, want a memorable day. 9-Point or Elephant. Both deliver a story you'll tell at dinners for two years.
  • Family with 8+ year olds. Monkey Island as passenger pillion (parent rides, kid pillion). Avoid 9-Point — long ride, choppy water in the afternoon, hard on a small body.
  • Adrenaline junkies. 9-Point on a Yamaha FX 1,900 SC. Top speed of 105 km/h. The supercharged Yamaha is the only jet ski in our fleet that genuinely rewards aggressive riding.
  • Honeymooners. Yamu Monkey Island. The Cape Yamu launch is quieter and more photogenic than Patong. Bluetooth speaker plays your wedding song. Yes, customers actually do this.
  • Music lovers, music critics. Yamu, again — same Bluetooth setup, but specifically request the Yamaha VX Deluxe 1,100 with speakers, not the Yamaha VX-C 1,100.

Things people get wrong about the ranking

Yamu is not "Monkey Island light". They share the destination, but Cape Yamu has its own timetable and its own launch logistics, and the actual riding experience is different — quieter water, smaller groups, the speaker setup. Don't book Yamu thinking you're getting a discount Monkey Island. Book it because Cape Yamu is closer to your hotel or because you specifically want the music.

Scenic is not "the budget option". Scenic costs the same as Monkey Island. It's just a shorter and frankly less interesting route — the Khai Islands are picturesque but you can't beach properly on most of them. We sell it because some travellers want a half-day option, but if you have 4 hours either way, Monkey Island wins.

Elephant Route doesn't include riding the elephants. The camp we visit doesn't offer rides — only walking and feeding. Read the animals piece for context on why.

The fast answer

One day, no other constraints: 9-Point Grand Tour. Save ฿400, book a Yamaha VX-C 1,100. That's enough machine for any rider.

That's the honest answer the WhatsApp message at 11pm Bangkok time is looking for.
